| CHRIST
CHAPEL - CHALK HILL, PA |
|
|
| In
1874, Rev. A. H. Waters, superintendent of the
Jumonville Orphanage, at the request of some area
Lutherans, started holding religious services at a
schoolhouse in Chalk Hill. In 1894, a three-acre
plot of ground was purchased. A cemetery was laid
out and plans were adopted for the erection of a
church. The church was dedicated on October 11,
1895. The small white chapel, surrounded by oak
trees, is located in the Laurel Mountains about seven
miles east of Uniontown. It is situated on the
Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road, less than a mile from the
village of Chalk Hill. On December 7, 1969, Christ
Lutheran Church, Chalk Hill, merged with St. Paul's
Lutheran Church, Uniontown, PA and is known as Christ
Chapel of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. |
